So excited to announce the first (hopefully of many) Mama Lotties’ cookbook, entitled a 76 Gibraltarian Inspired Recipes. Launched in October 2014, The book contains short introductions to recipes, clear ingredients and methods and is full of images to help keep Gibraltar’s recipes alive.

I have had an amazing experience putting this together for you, creating each recipe from scratch and trying and testing every one carefully selecting which to put in the book.

The book contains 76 locally inspired recipes, many treasured ones from Mama and local families from years gone by, as well as some funky new additions to try, including, Torta de Acelga, Menestra, Lentejas and Pollo al Ajillo, through to Borrachuelos and Mantecados

Thank you everyone for all your help and support. Don’t miss out, go check it out and let me know what you think!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Reasons Why You Need This Book

Perhaps you will say I am biased being a fellow Gibraltarian, but the fact is that I take reviews seriously, and in this case, more so because I am acquainted with the dishes mentioned. Justin Bautista has simplified the recipes which at one time were written down on pieces of paper and passed down to the family or neighbours or friends. Of course, in the course of the recipes’ travels, little bits were added or subtracted, reflecting a step further from the original. But the basics are there and Justin acknowledges the minute changes that people will make to suit their own tastebuds! I cannot find any noteworthy fault, and am pleased to see the photographic “evidence” of the finished fayre. Perhaps there is one thing missing and that is I think that the notes on every recipe should include “Serves Four” or “Serves Five” or even “serves Two”. This would give the reader an idea as to whether the weights and measures quoted stay as per the book or need to be doubled up or reduced. I am sure that looking at the finished product will determine how many can be invited to tea! I sincerely hope that Justin produces a Volume 2!

As a gibbo who has moved away this is such a great book, made me so happy seeing all the very familiar recipes that I have grown up eating. Making menestra as I type i’ll be my very own Gibraltar mama soon and this book is a little reminder to my heritage I am so proud to be from Gibraltar. Every one should have a try at this well worth it

5.0 out of 5 stars Looking forward to getting stuck in
By ceebee on 11 October 2014
Just received this morning so haven’t tried any recipes yet. That said I’m now really hungry having leafed through it. The book is very well laid out with clear, easy to follow instructions and lots of pictures so you know if you’ve done it right.
Really looking forward to getting stuck in, but which one to try first as they all look delicious?
